about

There's beauty in the bare bark brown
Of trees on distant hills
But a silence falls on my home town
Creeps in with winter's chill

These old bones of mine are telling me
It's time to make a change
Trade cold for warm and snow for sun
Seems like a fine exchange

Don't know why it's been so long
I guess it's just because
It's easier to stay around
Than it is to move along

I can feel it stir within me
Like I'm cast adrift
My soul is heading far from here
On it's southward drift

I'll miss the laughter of good old friends
And the scent of mountain pine
The way the endless river bends
Just like a poets rhyme

There comes a time in every life
As the light is burning low
When too much has got behind
It's no endless picture show

These things I will leave behind
I'll still hold them in my mind
When southern ways bring me down
And the steel sky burns me blind

There will always be a part of me
That walks down frosted lanes
And turns to catch the snowbirds call
Across the wintered plains
